The Kentucky Law Enforcement Council voted at their February 6, 2020, quarterly meeting to approve the Bowling Green Police Department to move forward with their training academy, the Bowling Green Law Enforcement Academy (BG LEA). Lt. Colonel Penny Bowles presented the Council with a virtual tour of their new academy. In addition, Chief Douglas Hawkins, Lt. Colonel Charles Casey who will also serve as the academy’s Training Director, Captain Robert Hansen, Mayor Bruce Wilkerson and several City Council Members were in attendance to support the approval of their request. The BG LEA will hold its first basic training class for police recruits in June 2020.
