Troy Young

Troy Young is the Mayor of Lawrenceburg.  Before being elected Mayor in 2019, Troy retired as Sheriff of Anderson County in 2016.  His law enforcement career spanned over 30 years. 

He began at 15 years of age as a telecommunicator for the City of Lawrenceburg.  He graduated from DOCJT Class 148 in 1983 and served as a patrolman with the Lawrenceburg Police Department.  He joined the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office as a Detective and was subsequently promoted to Chief Deputy.  In 2005, he was appointed Sheriff and successfully reelected for three terms until his retirement in 2016.

He served on the KY Sheriff’s Association Board of Directors from 2007 to 2016, culminating in his service as President in 2015.  In 2011, he was named Sheriff of the Year by his peers at the Kentucky Sheriffs Association.  He also served on the following state and local boards:  Kentucky Law Enforcement Council from 2011 to 2016, KSA Representative to the Governor’s Executive Committee on Highway Safety, KSA Representative on the Occupant Protection Emphasis Team-Governors Executive, Committee on Highway Safety, KY Crime Prevention Council, 911 Advisory Board, Treasurer, Anderson County Drug Intervention Fund and Turner Elementary School Family Resource. 

Troy was the first instructor for the Drug Abuse Resistance Program (DARE) in Anderson County in 1987 and served as an instructor until 2013. He received the DARE Lifetime Achievement Award from the KY DARE Association in 2011. 

Troy and his wife Benita have triplet sons and three grandchildren.
