Career Development Program Updates

The Career Development Program has been around now for 18 years. Training has changed dramatically over those 18 years. Kentucky Law Enforcement Council’s program coordinator in charge of this program, DeAnna Boling, has added several new career tracks and updated some of the original ones. The new Career Development Program Information Guide is now available for download.

The new career tracks are:

  • School Resource Officer I

  • School Resource Officer II

  • School Resource Officer III

  • Tactical Officer

  • Canine Officer

  • Intermediate Court Security Officer

  • Advanced Court Security Officer

  • Sheriff Supervisor

  • Sheriff Manager

  • Sheriff Executive

  • Sheriff Chief Executive

  • Investigative Public Safety Dispatcher

Because training has changed dramatically in 18 years, some of the original courses assigned to certain career tracks, are no longer available. In addition, because public safety dispatchers are only required to complete 8 hours of in-service training per year, the matrices for their tracks were not allowing them to earn certificates in a timely manner. For this reason, the Intermediate Public Safety Dispatcher, Advanced Public Safety Dispatcher, the Communications Training Officer, the Telecommunicator Supervisor and the Telecommunicator Manager/Director matrices have been updated. In the past, KLEC only had one track for Deputy Sheriffs. The Advanced Deputy Sheriff track has been retired and all Deputy Sheriff’s will now be able to apply for the Intermediate Law Enforcement Officer and the Advanced Law Enforcement Officer.

The Kentucky Law Enforcement Council is pleased to announce the newly enhanced Career Development Program.
