Kentucky State Police Telecommunications Academy News

The Kentucky State Police Telecommunications Academy Graduates Class #17. Eight KSP Telecommunicators throughout the Commonwealth graduated the basic academy as Class 17. Representing seven KSP Posts, the group began its journey on February 1, 2021. The course provided 196 hours of instruction during the five-week training. The basic curriculum covered subjects such as: legal liability, limits of Telecommunicator authority, the Telecommunicator’s role in public safety, interpersonal communications, customer service, interaction with the news media, stress, ethics and confidentiality, responder safety, basic fire dispatch, state emergency operation plans, Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS), cardio pulmonary resuscitation, first aid training, emergency medical dispatch and special needs callers.

The Charlotte Tanner Valedictorian Award is presented to the student who has the highest GPA and has put in extraordinary effort to graduate the KSP Telecommunciations Academy. Charlotte Tanner was the founder of the Kentucky State Police Telecommunications Program. She served more than 50 years as a Telecommunicator, Radio Room Supervisor and Instructor. The Charlotte Tanner Valedictorian Award for Class #17 with an overall grade point average of 99.40% from the Mayfield Post is Audrey Lamb.
