On Monday, June 15, 2020, the Bowling Green Police Department hosted an unveiling and ribbon cutting for their new Bowling Green Law Enforcement Academy. This venture has been a year long process as they had to get approval from the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council to become a training academy, have an on-site visit from the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council for inspection, prepare curriculum for basic training and get instructors approved and certified to teach the 815.5 hour curriculum.

Deputy Chief Penny Bowles (above) stated that a benefit of having their own academy is the recruits are trained efficiently in the Bowling Green procedures for their police department. The recruits will be able to finish training in a more timely manner.

Chief Doug Hawkins said their academy allows their recruits to complete basic training quicker because they do not have to wait for an opening at the academy in Richmond.

Monday, June 15, 2020 was the first day of training and employment with the Bowling Green Police Department. The group of 12 are slated to graduate on November 6, 2020.
