The Lexington Police Academy started a new recruit class three weeks ago and has already engaged in their first community support event. On February 1, 2020, they assisted in the Shop and Share Project 2020 with Greenhouse17 which is a shelter for abused women. Volunteering for this event were personnel from the Lexington Police Recruit Class 01-2020, sworn members of the Lexington Police Department and community groups from Lexington and Georgetown (see photo above).

With everyone’s support, Greenhouse17 managed to collect $100,000 in goods and services and $12,000 in gift cards. These donations were in the Lexington area. Greenhouse17 advised that it was one of the most successful and organized years to date. The Lexington Police Academy appreciates future officers taking the time to support their local community.

One of the primary goals of the Lexington Police Academy is to instill a service mindset into all of their police officers. Lieutenant Chris Spurlock stated, “We want our officers to understand the importance of serving and giving back to our community members. Class 01-2020 is no exception. We are always looking for opportunities to participate in a host of community service events throughout the academy process.” Congratulations to the recruit class, sworn personnel and community volunteers who made this venture a success.
