The Kentucky Law Enforcement Council created new career tracks for their Career Development Program this year. Three of those new tracks are the School Resource Officer I, II and III certificates. These tracks were created after the School Safety legislation passed and became effective in February of 2020. The new legislation required specific training for SRO’s and requirements for school systems. Deputy Sheriff/School Resource Officer Errol R. Riffe of the Boyd County Sheriff’s Office is an active participant of the Career Development Program and was motivated by the new career tracks. He earned his School Resource Officer I Certificate in early November and his School Resource Officer II Certificate in the middle of November. He is the first officer to earn the SRO II certificate and is slated to earn the SRO III certificate in 2021 after completing the required class.

Deputy Riffe stated, “I have enjoyed my SRO Duties more and found them to be just as challenging as any other assignment I've had in my Law Enforcement Career. I believe wholeheartedly that Kentucky leads the Nation with our current SRO Training Program. It gives Officers the knowledge and tools to be successful at our jobs, which enables us to provide the best service possible to the students we protect. The paradigm in School Safety has certainly evolved in the last generation and the SRO curriculum at the Academy has moved to stay relevant to those changes.”

The Kentucky Law Enforcement Council would like to like to congratulate Deputy Errol R. Riffe on his achievement.
