Job Description: The following tasks are typical for this position, other duties may be assigned:

These essential job functions are:

Drive an automobile and possess a valid operator’s license
Pass annual firearm qualifications
Use and maintain essential equipment such as firearms, batons, flashlights, chemical sprays, ECD device and handcuffs, radios, computers, copiers, cellular phones, etc.
Maintain Kentucky Law Enforcement Council Certification
Serve warrants, DVO’s, EPO’s and make forcible arrests
Testify in court
Keep written records and make written reports of crimes, accidents, incidents in conformity with procedures, and write citations as warranted
Control traffic and spectators at the scene of an emergency or crime or large gatherings
Respond to and investigate vehicular accidents
Assist in rescue operations and render medical aid in emergencies
Climb Stairs
Pursue suspects while running and scaling obstacles
Perform vehicle and/or foot patrol
Read, write, and communicate at 12th grade or higher level
Speak before citizen and professional groups
Evaluate potentially volatile situations and deal with them in an appropriate manner
Follow orders and directives
Maintain familiarity with federal, state, and local laws and ordinances as well as Police Department policies, rules, regulations, and guidelines
Maintain knowledge of geographic areas of the City and surrounding areas
Actively participate in training courses as a student
Take control of a crime scene, secure and preserve evidence, and interview witnesses

Shift Information: Patrol operates on a rotating 10 hour day schedule on four shifts. First Shift 0700-1700, Second Shift 1300-2300, Power Shift 1700-0300, and Third Shift 2200-0800

Starting Salary: Pay Scale by Years of Experience <1 year Grade I - $47,313.24 1-2 years Grade II - $ 49,621.20 2-5 years Grade III - $ 55,333.40 5-7 years Grade IV - $ 61,524.51 7-9 years Grade V - $ 65,289.24 9+ years Grade VI - $ 67,248.11 All sworn employees receive state incentive pay in addition to listed salaries (Wages may increase with collective bargaining agreement changes) Lateral hires will be placed on the seniority list at the date of hire; no other seniority privileges apply.
