Derek Paulsen

Derek Paulsen is a Professor of Criminal Justice and the Dean of the College of Justice and Safety at Eastern Kentucky University.

Paulsen has over twenty publications including three books, the most recent of which is Crime and Urban Planning: Towards Socially Sustainable Communities. He is active in research on crime analysis and crime mapping, technology and policing, and the impact of urban planning on neighborhood crime. He has given over sixty presentations, including twenty invited presentations and received several research grants to develop data analysis solutions to assist in the understanding of crime patterns.

In addition, he has served as the Commissioner of Planning, Preservation and Development for the City of Lexington, Kentucky for seven years, in which he oversaw seven Divisions of Government and worked on numerous policy issues associated with neighborhood crime and urban planning.

Interim Dean Derek Paulsen serves on the Curriculum Committee.
