Clayton Sumner

Chief Clayton Sumner has been with the Hopkinsville Police Department for 16 years. He has served the Hopkinsville Police Department as a patrol officer, Detective, Narcotics officer, gang officer as well as promoting through the ranks of Corporal, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Major and ultimately appointed as the police Chief in January of 2015.

Chief Sumner has a Bachelor of integrated studies from Murray State University as well as a Master’s in Public Administration from Murray State University. He is a graduate of the Administrative Officers Course from the University of Louisville Southern Police Institute (AOC 126) and was recognized as the 2018 Kentucky League of Cities Employee of the year (2018). Chief Sumner serves on the Certification Committee.
