The Dieruf family is the proprietor of Jeffersontown’s oldest family owned and operated business. Dieruf Hardware opened its doors in 1946 and is still providing that personal small town customer service today. He served as a substitute professor at the University of Louisville School of Business Management.
Bill has been Mayor for the last seven years and has worked with agencies, associations and both local and state officials to make Jeffersontown a place of economic growth and development for businesses of all size.
In November 2000, he was appointed to serve on the Jeffersontown City Council. He was elected to four additional terms, serving as councilman for ten years. On November 2, 2010 he was elected to serve as Mayor of Jeffersontown and is serving his third term in 2019.
Mayor Dieruf serves our community on the following Boards and Committees: Kentucky League of Cities (KLC), Kentucky League of Cities Insurance Services Association (KLCIS), Kentuckiana Regional Planning & Development Agency (KIPDA), Jefferson County League of Cities (JCLC), Greater Louisville Inc. (GLI) - Board of Directors, Chamber Jeffersontown- Board of Directors, Campbellsville University- Visitors Board of Directors, Jefferson County Comprehensive Plan – Board of Advisors, WAVE 3 Editorial Board and the Kentucky Council of Area Development Districts.
Mayor Dieruf and his wife Jody have been married for 40 years. They have one daughter, Jennifer. He has two grandsons, Luke and Carter, which are the bright spot of his day. Bill is a proud graduate of St. Xavier, Class of 1973. He attended the University of Kentucky where he graduated with his Accounting Degree in 1976. He loves to support his alma maters and attend alumni and community events. He believes in family first and the community of Jeffersontown is part of that family. He serves on the Professional Standards Committee.
